I had the opportunity to be one of two club photographers for !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! s Quattrofest 2013 at Portland International Raceway (PIR). Quattrofest 2013 was held on the weekend of November 2nd and 3rd. This year's Quattofest was dedicated in the memory of Bruce Fields, who has been a significant part of the Audi community and the club.

I nearly filled out the rear cargo area of the Q5 with several bags of camera and photography equipment, including three cameras, eight or so lenses, an Induro carbon fiber monopod, a Gitzo carbon fiber tripod, a Really Right Stuff BH-55 ballhead with quick-release clamp and gobs of batteries, memory cards and filters. For the cameras, I brought my entire arsenal of a Nikon D300, a Leica M9 and a Sony RX100 compact camera.

Kinja'd!!!

Most of the photos were taken with the Nikon D300, which had any one of the following lenses mounted throughout the weekend: a 35mm f/1.8G DX, a 105mm f/2.8G VR macro, a 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II and a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8. The Leica M9 spent most of its time with a Voigtländer 21mm f/4 mounted on it for close up, glamor shots.

It was great meeting a lot of the club members that I've chatted online in various forums or groups, seeing those that I've met the year before and those that I haven't met before. Seeing (and hearing) a wide ranging set of cars, including some non-Audis, also made this petrol head smile hour after hour.

The weekend also has its low points, which included an outright downpour (in which I was out taking photos with a rain jacket on myself and on my camera), dealing with a faulty memory card reader (thus losing about 250 shots).

Below is a sampling of the various cars that took part of Quattrofest 2013 and a few photos from the banquet held the night of November 2nd. The entire set of photos taken by yours truly can be found on Flickr within the " !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! " set. The photos taken by the other club photographer, Chris Mitchell, can also on Flickr in his set, " !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ".

1. I was not aware this was happening, and would have spent my last gas dollar to go.

2. An M3 snuck in, not sure if you caught that or not. Better kick him out.

3. Nice photos, man. Jealous of your gear too. Including the Q5.

Thanks!

Quattrofest is usually held the first weekend of November and information about it is usually posted in advanced by ACNA and ACNW. Having done some photography the year before (not as an official photographer), I was pinged by one of the guys that volunteer with the event asking if I wanted to do the photography for this year. I mulled on it for a few months and decided to go for it :)

All vehicles are allowed at Quattrofest, be it an Audi, VW, Subaru, Mitsubishi or even BMWs ;)

The Q5 was a loaner from Audi Wilsonville since my S5 wouldn't have been exactly a great choice of vehicles to take on gravel roads and try to climb on to some of the muddy bits outside of the track. The D300 has a new, bigger sibling now... a D800E :)

Nice! I'm not tuned in to ACNW, cause I don't have an Audi yet. I'll have to remember that next year (high probability I will forget)

Ah, gotcha. I'm not 100% sure that I'm going to be the photographer for next year, but I still have some time to decide ;)

If memory serves me correctly, the driver and owner of the Austin-Healy Sprite is Parker Johnstone .

That's a really cool shot. Love that you got the face in the mirror.

Thanks! I had been chatting to the driver and moved on to frame a shot of the line-up, I saw her reflection in the mirror and asked if I could take a photo of it. Was super glad it came out really nice. Her and her husband saw the photo when it was posted and paid for two prints.

I do too, but wanted to showcase a couple of other nice shots... even if they don't include an Audi in it ;)

In all seriousness, the blue R8 looks amazing!

I think my favorite shot of that R8 is this one:

idk, that watermark looks pretty damn professional to me.

Since I had a couple of my photos cropped/edited and posted online, I decided to have fun learning Illustrator. I know "Q" would be involved in the name/logo and used a roll of 35mm film as inspiration. Thus, my watermark was born.

Yeah, I tried using watermarks, but I couldn't find a decent program for adding them, and since I take like 6000+ photos an event its too much of a pain to add them to most.

I end up using Lightroom's export feature to include the watermark when I export from RAW to JPEG. The only time that I don't have LR include the watermark is if I want to do further work on the photos in Photoshop and add a watermark layer. Thankfully, I don't do a lot of work in Photoshop as that would be a royal PITA.

Although, if you had access to ImageMagick for Windows or Mac OS X, you could probably find a way to script it for mass sets of photos: http://www.linuxandlife.com/2012/07/use-im…

(Just one of several tutorials that I've found, but this one has a funny image to start with :D)

I probably need to rework my watermark too, its a little invasive. Thanks for the helpful link.
